Kaieteur News – Dem boys been watchin’ this govament playin’ all kind ah strokes tuh bat down de cost ah livin’. Vee Pee seh dey drop de fuel tax fuh avoid a spike in the price at de pump.
Dey cut de light bill an’ even slash de wata rates, suh when yuh cry ‘bout de prices, at least yuh tears comin’ cheap. Farmers gettin’ dem fertilizers, an’ businessmen ridin’ high pon tax concessions on dem freight costs. Yet still, when yuh go to de market, yuh pocket feelin’ like it gone pon a diet—de prices stiff like ah ole man back.
Now Vee Pee, dis ain’t like cricket where yuh jus’ change de bowler an’ expect a miracle. No matter how much strokes yuh pull, if yuh bat bent, de ball still miss de boundary. De problem is, all dem nice things yuh doin’—subsidizin’ dis an’ slashin’ dat—it look good pon paper, but it nah reach de people dem. Is like dressin’ up a donkey in silk an’ callin’ it a thoroughbred—yuh foolin’ nobody.
Yuh tink because yuh drop some taxes, de importers guh pass de savings to de poor man? Nah man! De small man still payin’ premium prices. And dem farmers, well, dey might get lil help wid dem fertilizers, but by de time de crops reach de market, de middleman done mark up de price so high, yuh might as well import it from outer space.
Vee Pee, it ain’t dat de govament ain’t doin’ nottin’—yuh doin’ plenty. But like yuh tryin’ tuh swim wid a anchor tie to yuh waist. Dem measures only wukkin’ fuh de top, while de bottom a drop out. What we need now is not jus’ new strokes, but fuh yuh tuh tek a fresh look at de whole pitch. Maybe is time tuh try somethin’ different, like actually mekkin’ sure de benefits yuh tink yuh dishin’ out actually reach de people dem who need it most. If not, de market guh continue tuh tek every last cent outta we pocket, and no amount ah fancy footwork guh ease de pressure.
