Kaieteur News – The construction of the Black Bush Polder pump station in Region Six is now expected to cost $754,978,560. The $754M project was awarded on May 30, 2024 to Quality Deliverer, the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) announced on its website.
Quality Deliverer was among 15 contractors who had recently bid for the contract which was estimated to cost $799,729,350.
The contract to construct the pump station and to irrigate the Black Bush Polder Front Lands was retendered due to the termination of the initial contract last year.
The Ministry of Agriculture had inked a $978.7 million contract with Yunaz Civil and Building Construction in October 2021 to build a pump station at the Black Bush Polder Front Lands. This project was scheduled to be completed early 2023.
However, the project had passed its deadline and the slothfulness of the works was raised by Opposition Member of Parliament (MP), Ganesh Mahipaul in October 2023.
Following the concerns raised by the Opposition MP, the Ministry of Agriculture in a letter addressing the issue had announced that the project was terminated by the NDIA in September 2023, for poor quality and performance of works being executed.
The tender for a new contractor was issued in February 2024.
