Kaieteur News – Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony on Saturday commissioned a new $20.3 million health post at Schepmoed, Region Six.
The newly established health facility, which is fully equipped and staffed, will provide services such as adolescent health, family planning, and outpatient services among others and is to benefit over 150 residents within the community and its surrounding areas.
In his brief remarks at the commissioning ceremony, Minister Anthony said that the government remains committed to making healthcare services accessible to everyone irrespective of where they reside in the country.
The minister stated, “We are very pleased as a Government to be able to fulfill the promises made in building a health post here in Schepmoed and the reason being is that we would like to extend Primary Health Care Service to all communities across Guyana.”
Additionally, he explained that the government is putting a lot of emphasis on developing health facilities for the region, therefore the citizens must utilise the free healthcare services that are being made available to them.
Regional Health Office (RHO) of Region Six, Dr. Vishalya Sharma mentioned that the Schepmoed Health Post is just a part of upgrading the healthcare system in the region. She added, “This facility is just part of the straightening of the primary health care sector that has been taking place in your community as well as the region.”
