GuyanaNRA hosts successful Practical Pistol Year End Championship

Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana NRA held its annual year end practical pistol shooting championship, dubbed Christmas Shoot 2023, last Sunday at the Timehri Rifle ranges.

The year-end event consisted of two stages that that saw hand gunners competing against each other in tests of speed and accuracy under the watchful eyes of Club captain Gordon Richards, who stressed the importance of safe firearm handling and practices at the beginning of the competition.

The unpredictable Timehri weather which included brilliant sunshine and moments of pouring rainfall did not deter veteran shooter Mohamed Qualander, who emerged the overall winner in the Senior Category with an outstanding shooting performance that saw him beating Chad Melville and Shawn Smith into second and third place, respectively. A notable mention also goes to Harold “Top Gun”

Hopkinson, who managed to finish in fourth place.

In the Junior Shooter division, Jason Cox emerged as the top shooter with Glendon Fogenay and Vivian Crandon placing second and third, respectively. Rickel Benjamin came in fourth.

The presentation of trophies was done by Captain Gordon Richards and he thanked the competitors and range officers for their participation and for having a safe shoot. He promised that the year 2024 will see increased competition events and tours.

The GuyanaNRA is reminding the public to support their fund-raising Bar-Be-Que event to be held on Saturday, December 23, at the YMCA Ground. Tickets can be purchased from any member of the Club.
