Kaieteur News – A 37-year-old man was on Sunday intercepted at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) with approximately 26.016 kg (almost 57.35 lbs.) in narcotics, a firearm and ammunitions.
The Customs Anti- Narcotics Unit (CANU) made the bust during a routine operation at the Airport.
According to CANU, while conducting a routine operation at a cargo company adjacent to the CJIA, they intercepted a motorcar driven by Christopher Michael Douglas, of Lot 1070 Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD) and of 127 King Edward Street, Albouystown, Georgetown.
A subsequent search of the motorcar led to the discovery of twenty-three (23) brick-like parcels of suspected cocaine and a 9mm pistol and a magazine with 14 matching rounds.
Douglas was arrested and taken to CANU Headquarters along with the suspected narcotics.

The parcels of cocaine valued G$27M and a 9mm pistol and a magazine with 14 matching rounds which were found in his possession.
According to CANU the narcotics tested positive for cocaine, weighting approximately 26.016 kg (almost 57.35 lbs.), with a street value of approximately G$27 million.
An investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, CANU in a press release said it continues to work assiduously with other stakeholders to ensure that narcotics are not transshipped via passenger or cargo through the Cheddi Jagan International Airport and the Eugene F. Correia International Airport.
