Kaieteur News – Police are hunting a man accused of beating his common-law wife to death on Sunday morning at their home at Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
The dead woman was identified as Bibi Naseefa Baksh, 48, and on the run is her husband, a 29-year-old fisherman.
According information received, Baksh died around 05:30hrs.
Kaieteur News understands that the couple’s relationship was filled with domestic issues that led to frequent fights and quarrels. On Sunday one of their fights ended deadly.
The couple reportedly started arguing with each other during a drinking session around 04:30hrs yesterday morning. It escalated and Baksh’s husband started beating her in front of her mother and 12-year-old daughter.
It is alleged that the man kicked her down a flight of stairs and reportedly kicked, cuffed, and dealt lashes to her body with a piece of wood.
After beating her, he assisted the woman back into the house with the help of her daughter. Baksh went to bed but never woke up.
Seeing her mother motionless on the bed, the 12-year-old child raised an alarm and the police were called in. The fisherman reportedly left the house before they came.
When police arrived, they noted that her body bore multiple marks of violence including abrasions to her forehead, shoulder, arms and knees. They took her the Leonora Cottage Hospital where doctors officially pronounced her dead.
Investigations are ongoing.
