Kaieteur Sports – The 15th edition of the Banks DIH Guyana Cup Horse Race Meet was officially launched yesterday at the Roriama Duke Lodge in Kingston ahead of race day, which is slated for August 13 at the Rising Sun Turf Club (RSTC), located on the West Coast of Berbice.
Present at the simple ceremony were Banks DIH Communications Executive, Sonya Forrester, President of the Jumbo Jet Thorough Bred Racing Committee (JJTRC), Nasrudeen Mohammed, GPF’s Assistant Superintendant Henry and JJTRC’s Irshad Mohamed.
Forrester said, “On behalf of Banks DIH, we are proud to once again be the title sponsor for another edition of the Guyana Cup. It is one of the biggest events we look forward to on the calendar and this year promises to be better.”

Among the officials present at the launch of the Banks DIH Guyana Cup 2023 were Banks DIH’s Communication Executive, Sonya Forrester (3rd left), JJTRC President, Nasrudeen Mohammed (2nd left), JJTRC Executive, Irshad Mohamed (2nd left), Banks DIH’ Mortimer Stewart and ASP Henry.
She added that Banks DIH is always pleased to support the event, which gives back to the community and the horse racing fraternity.
The organising committee, JJTRC, has addressed several issues from the staging of the 14th edition, most of which have been rectified with the refurbishing of the RSTC into an all-weather facility by businessman, Nasurdeen Mohammed.
The major issue was the congestion of traffic, which Assistant Superintendant Henry stated will be rectified, due to the installation of a 4-lane road from the Highway into the 2000-lot Parking Area. Additionally, persons buying tickets at the venue will have to make those purchases at the booths in the Parking Area and then make their way into the venue.
The main gates will only be used for the Horse owners.
ASP Henry added that there will be a lot of his ranks on the road and inside the venue to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and the safety of all patrons.
Meanwhile, Mohamed confirmed International Horses from Brazil, Suriname and the United States of America with the current total in that bracket at 13. They will of course add to the scores of locally-bred horses that will be on show.
In-depth details about the race card will continue to emerge as race day approaches.
