Kaieteur News – Two Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) officers were arrested for allegedly stealing from a detainee.
In a statement on Saturday afternoon, CANU said the two officers have been handed over to the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
“The two CANU officers are alleged to have stolen items from an individual who was detained during a CANU operation in Berbice,” CANU said.
Kaieteur News learnt that the CANU ranks allegedly stole from a foreign national who was detained during an operation in Corentyne, Berbice, Region Six. The foreign national was taken to CANU’s headquarters in Georgetown and it was there that he alleged that the ranks stole gold jewellery and other items for him.
“The matter has been handed over to the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and investigations are in progress,” stated CANU.
