Kaieteur News – The new $100 million National Toshao’s Council (NTC) Secretariat is completed. The Executive Members of the NTC on Thursday visited the new building to inspect the work that was done.
The new building is located at the National Exhibition Centre, Sophia, Georgetown.
The building will soon be occupied once procurement of office equipment and furnishings are done. The building consists of an administrative section, and a dome, which will be used to host meetings and other events. Additionally, the admin building has four self-contained rooms that will provide accommodation for Toshaos travelling for meetings in the city.
Notably, the artwork on the building was done by Courtney Douglas.
The NTC is the representative body of all Toshaos. It engages with Government and other stakeholders on behalf of all villages; promotes good governance practices; advocates for sustainable management of natural resources; and prepares implements and supports policies, plans and projects to enhance the lives and livelihoods of Guyana’s Indigenous Peoples.
An injection of $100 million in the 2022 National Budget, paved the way for the Secretariat to be relocated from its Hadfield and Cross Streets location to a new building at the National Exhibition Center.
