The detention and search of The Permanent Secretary of Guyana raises more questions than answers?

The arrest and search of Permanent Secretary, Mae Toussaint-Merabux at The Miami Airport raises more questions than answers. I say this on the basis of all the events that surrounded that detention and
her subsequent release. In the first place she was purposefully singled out and searched by the authorities there, and the question is asked why? What was the reason for her detention? We are here discussing a situation where amidst the thousands of passengers passing through that airport, why was she singled out and searched?
A permanent secretary at that, on official government business, why was she targeted for a special search? And the questions keep coming?
My next point is, by whose directive was the stop and search plan given? Who authorised such an exercise? Was it an official directive from USA Authorities at Miami or was it a call in leaked tip off, that The Permanent Secretary was carrying something illegal? In either scenario nothing illicit was found on or in Mistress Mae Touissant-Merabux, so why not issue an apology to her, as well as to The Government of Guyana?
Now, amidst all the convoluted reasons given, one excuse stands out, that is, “she was always on The USA’s Watch list.” And again I ask the question, watch list for what? Guyana and The USA have cordial relations, and as such if any question marks surrounding The PS’ conduct exists, then, the decent thing to do is express such displeasure to The Government of Guyana. Otherwise, to carry out a humiliating exercise like this, would constitute a violation of The Geneva Convention.
So, let me delve a little deeper on this issue of being on a watch list. From times immemorial The entire PPP Party was on The American’s Watch list; The Jagdeo Presidency being significantly so. His presidency was dogged with allegations of being in collusion with the drugs Lord Roger Khan. Those accusations stemmed from local and external forces alike, thankfully not one of those allegations were proven true. In fact when Khan came back to Guyana The Granger Government failed to prosecute him or even to call a COI as to the validity of those allegations.
So, anyone with even half a brain would come up with the conjecture, that those same smear campaign tactics against The PPP/C Party are still alive and well. Create doubt in The American’s mind, put a wedge between The USA and The PPP/C Government and there is no better way than to prove that age old theory of drug association and trafficking right! To do this you attack at a soft target, that is, have an Afro-Guyanese woman being caught as a drugs mule for her PPP/C Barons. Their clumsy plan did not work and this has caused a huge embarrassment for the plotters. In a related news leak, it has been rumoured that Ambassador Sarah Ann-Lynch is to be replaced, if this is true then it all adds up to the theory of creating that environment of distrust between the two administrations. Lest we forget this noble lady was very present and vocal against the machinations of The PNC in their attempt to rig the last election here in Guyana. So, I close here by saying, there is more to this stop and search episode than greets the eye, let’s stay tuned!
