Kaieteur News – Another year has come to an end. A new one begins. I sincerely hope that 2022 was a good year for all of you, and as the year ended, you would have accomplished much of which you set yourself to achieve, at its beginning. Now that 2023 has begun, I urge that you continue into this new year with an enduring positive mindset and a focused determination to make 2023 an even better year for you.
For those of you who may not have had a good 2022, do not lose hope, do not give up! Continue to persevere and work industriously towards those things you wish to accomplish. Remember, life was never meant to be easy. Life is filled with challenges. The way we creatively work around and overcome those challenges, builds and strengthens our character, and works to make us better versions of ourselves over time.
As we embrace the New Year, let us focus on becoming better people. It is not an easy task, but it is achievable once there is the desire and commitment. Sometimes our priorities can become misaligned as we focus on the material things we wish to acquire. We need that house, that car, that degree, that job, that promotion, and the list can go on, that sometimes we lose track of ourselves and the ways in which we can develop into better versions of ourselves as time progresses.
More pressing issues like the cost of living and the need to survive from one month to the next can take precedence and overshadow the need for us to introspect and reflect on our personal development and growth. The vicissitudes of life can sometimes make us lose track of the need to invest in our personal peace and spiritual wellbeing. Even as you set your resolutions for 2023, please try to set aside time for personal spiritual growth.
Try to smile a bit more, be nice, be civil, be courteous, and be supportive. Try to not let that annoying co-worker get the better of you. Spend more time with your family. Do simple things. Try to find peace and joy in 2023.
Regardless of the denomination to which you belong, try to make a little more time for devotion. Try to connect or re-connect spiritually with the Supreme Being.
Remember life is all about balance. There is a time for everything. Don’t let your drive for success make you lose sight of your own humanness and that of the people with whom you interact. Try to be a little kinder. Our society needs more people who are respectful, caring and understanding. Let 2023 be the year for the positive transformation of self.
As you work to achieve your individual goals, let your words and actions inspire those around you. Don’t just live life; live life with purpose. Always remember that as we work on becomingbetter versions of ourselves, others are looking to us for inspiration and example. Ensure you set good examples through your words and actions. In 2023, live a life worthy of emulation.
Self-development is a lifelong process—but not a linear process. As you encounter new situations, you will require new and different skills, and as challenges arise, you will have to address them frontally.
So make a valiant effort to become a better version of yourself in 2023, try to communicate more effectively: listen more, speak less. Work on developing your interpersonal skills. Establish efficient time management, and very crucially, schedule time for you. Keep an open mind and remember learning is a lifelong experience. Step out of your comfort zone in 2023; you’d be surprised at how much you grow as a result. Care for your body; ensure you make positive healthy adjustments to your lifestyle. And most importantly, find positive peer support; surround yourself with likeminded individuals who support and encourage you.
Let 2023 be your breakthrough year! May you continue to be blessed and I wish that you accomplish all that you set yourself for this New Year. And as the year unfolds may each of us make concerted and deliberate choices that will enable us to become better versions of ourselves.
Wishing you a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
