Dear Editor,
I left my home in Region 6 nearly 3 years ago to work in the bush as a pork-knocker, and had minimal contact with the outside world. I returned six weeks ago to conduct some business and am shocked, disappointed and angry with some of the developments in my absence. Please allow me to express my observances of the differences in my community and country.
1.The PPP government has apparently not learned its lesson. They were allegedly dispatched for their relations and overtures with communist Cuba nearly 60 years ago. Now, when much of the world is expressing outrage at China, they cannot seem to get enough of it. It is difficult to go anywhere in Guyana without encountering either a Chinese business or associate. And for the first time, Guyana is establishing direct flights to China. Be careful PPP, be very careful.
2.Our Vice President was apparently caught on a sting operation, allegedly trying to conduct government business in his home with foreign nationals. So much for accusing the opposition of corruption.
5.A black U.S Congressman who has never visited my country, and without any specific facts has publicly accused my country of being racist. When our black political leaders went to New York to confront him and discuss his accusations, he could not be found. Recently, again without specifics, he once again emerged to regurgitate his baseless accusations. One wonders that with all of America’s problems, where does he find the time to focus on our beautiful Guyana.
8.I, like many Guyanese believe in the accusations made by Sergeant Bascom, and am angry at the slow pace in investigating his accusations.
9.Our Attorney General in an incompetent, shameless and juvenile act, publicly and prematurely released a private message, for an expected ruling by the CCJ. And he compounded his behaviour by not expressing remorse or offering an apology.
Respectfully,
Herbert Allen
