Salads & Lifestyles opened its doors in September 2019, and since then it has been delivering hearty, healthy and tasty meals to its customers.
Owner of the establishment, 29-year-old Malika Rupan she shared, “My inspiration came from my first trip to NYC. I saw my aunt’s lifestyle and the way she eats very healthy and organic, therefore as I spent time there that became my very lifestyle. So when I came back home I felt as though I was eating so wrong and felt so guilty as if I’m ill-treating my body.”
Malika added that even though at first it was a challenge to eat healthier due to the imported food prices, she found a way to substitute these with locally grown crops. It was at this point she decided to help others eat healthier so that they could feel how eating healthier makes her feel.
Her business is located at Lot 5 Duncan Street, Bel Air, Georgetown, inside of the Bella Vista Mall. The working hours are from 08:30hours to 16:30hours from Monday to Saturday. Malika is presently working on a bigger dine-in location for her customers. Her dream goal is to have a ‘restaurant superstore’ up and running on or before December 2023.
“Our most popular dish will be hard to say because we make healthy foods so good, however it would have to be our creamy stuffed chicken breast/salmon with a nice gourmet salad,” she shared.
Malika added that her business do a lot of pop up shops and market days. They also cater for private dinners, birthday celebration, corporate meetings, staff parties or staff meetings. Some places ‘Salads & Lifestyles’ have catered for include: the University of Guyana (UG), the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), and several Ministries.
Malika describes herself as very friendly and an independent woman, who loves the Lord Jesus, her family and enjoys helping others.
“I am 29 years old and enjoy being in the food business. It helps me to meet so many amazing people who I can truly share this awesome journey with,” she added. Moreover, while Malika does not have any co-owners, she made mention of her mother, sister, pastor, driver, and other hardworking individuals who help her every day with the business.
