Kaieteur News – With the Christmas season fast approaching, there is no doubt that a lot of us are trying to get in shape to rock our figure at staff parties or wherever the holiday festivities will be.
Recognizing that not everyone make it to the gym or can even afford a membership, in this week’s Fit-Nest, we’ll discuss some easy but effective exercises you can try at home to burn off some belly fat.
Like any exercise routine, make sure you warm-up by stretching your muscles to prepare and more importantly, avoid injuries.
The first exercise I’d like to recommend you try is the ‘beginner plank’. There are different variations of the plank but if you are new to exercise, it would be best you try this less intense version.
To practice the plank, begin by laying face down on the ground. Place your elbows and legs flat like you are about to do a push-up. Push your body upward and keep your chin tight to your neck. Hold the position for about 10 seconds and repeat for about three times for the best results.
Another great and effective core exercise you can try is ‘bicycle crunches’. I’m sure you’ve heard of crunches before if you’re looking to get in shape, but just in case you haven’t I’ll help you to try this at home.
Start by lying on your back, next bend your knees bringing your heels closer to your butt and simply touch your ears with your hands. Now that you’re all set, aim to touch your left knee with your right elbow, squeezing your core and avoiding pressure on your neck. To do this you will need to slightly lift the top half of your body off of the ground to reach your knee. Instead of allowing your foot to rest on the ground after that motion kick it into the air and repeat the same motion on the opposite leg. You may aim for 20 repetitions (10 on each leg).
‘Leg raises’ are yet another option for guys and gals looking to get rid of stubborn lower belly fat we call the fupa (the belly fat that hangs above the pubic area). This simple exercise can be done by laying flat on your back with your legs outstretched and toes pointed up; also give yourself enough room to stretch your arms out above your head. Now slowly lift your right leg, bringing your right arm to almost touch your toes in the air. Lower your arm back down as you simultaneously lower your leg as well. Do this for about 10 times before repeating on the opposite side.
Next, be sure to try out the ‘Russian twist’. For this exercise, sit on the floor and beginners can keep their feet on the ground. Slightly tilt your back towards the ground (your body should be in a v-shape) and clasp your palms in front of your tummy. Begin the ‘Russian twis’ by moving your hands to the left side of your body, keeping your back tilted and squeezing your core; move your hand to the opposite side of your body and repeat this motion for about 20 times.
These are some equipment-less moves you can try to burn your tummy fat. Next week, I’ll share a few you can try out in the gym!
