Dear Editor,
People today globally live under the euphoria they belong to a particular group based on race, religion, politics, culture and whatever tribalist attribute they foster, creating the divisiveness mentality its’ us vs anyone else who is different from them – this mentality has shaped Guyana’s politics since independence and may have cost Guyanese their country. Most people striving to belong to their divisive group, have reduced themselves to being followers as they have been subjugated to propaganda by their respective leadership, listening to what they want to hear and as such divisive belonging have become more important to them, rather than right vs wrong, even if it costs them everything.
Unknowing to most people, following their leaders for their sense of divisive belonging have merely surrendered their power and wealth to their leaders. Ever wondered why there are so many multi-millionaires religious and political leaders globally? It’s because today’s divisiveness is all business not based on any beliefs, although these leaders are supposed to be living modestly and serving the people, they have become filthy rich and do a different kind of serving particularly the male leaders.
Guyanese who think divisiveness in Guyana is about Afro-PNC and Indo-PPP, are still following false messaging and divisiveness is now between the upper elite class and the masses regardless of race, religion, politics, or culture as the upper elite class consists of the rich, political leaders and foreigners and the masses consists of anyone else who is not part of the elites, thus business is conducted in Guyana with everything for the elites and little for the masses.
This has been going on for a long while in Guyana, since the days of Burnham, the business community contributed funds to the PNC in return for the Government not enforcing price gouging and consumer protection legislation which basically took away all the money from the masses. All the corruption was done with Afro and Indo politicians and selected citizens working in partnership together, the signatures of both PNC and PPP leaders are on the devil’s deal called the ‘oil contracts- it’s not surprising the PNC stay silent on renegotiation and on the disclosures of the mining and logging contracts because should they be released, it wouldn’t be surprising to see signatures of both party members on them.
When the PNC won the last time, they enacted SOCU, SARU, GRA and the Min. of Finance to find corruption of the PPP, they couldn’t find any, yet we see the proceeds of corruption staring at us from everywhere. If one had the privilege of attending the private parties of the elites, they would see foreigners, all races, all political parties wining, dining and much more together under the backdrop of discussing business and they then go back to their constituents and preach divisiveness keeping the masses divided while they live the good life as divisiveness guarantees them their base support. Sherwood Lowe and others who want unity policies to come from Government- good luck with that as leadership will not give up its good life derived from divisiveness.
With all the divisiveness in the US, the Republican Minority Leader could have shut the Government down by voting against increasing the debt ceiling, but he didn’t as no Congressman or Senator whether Republican or Democrat would be making any money. In the Gaza Strip all the mega money projects are done by partnership between Israeli and Palestinian businessmen politically connected, they make their money, live the good life, then go preach their divisiveness to the masses.
Guyanese, if you belong to the masses, it’s clear leadership whether PNC or PPP doesn’t want to give you your rightful share of your wealth, they don’t want you to have big houses and SUV’s – the current VP openly said if you get oil money there will be inflation- them alone must have all the wealth and power, if you, the masses get your wealth, they will no longer have power over you, particularly your daughters- the political parties will not give you your wealth, yet there are others willing to fight for you, its’ about time you follow and support the ones fighting for you rather than the ones dividing you.
R. David
