Dear Editor,
This letter is about my trip to Guyana after 46 years. We had a wonderful time and were very impressed with how Guyana has developed over the years. We stayed at the Marriott in Georgetown for a few days to attend a wedding there, and then spent the rest of the time with relatives. We felt very safe travelling around Georgetown, East Bank, West Coast and Berbice. The restaurants we visited served good quality and tasty food, especially one in Windsor Forest.
The one annoying negative we encountered is the very loud music that people were playing about four streets away from where we were staying. It was our last night in Guyana, and we had to be up by 2:30AM to head to the airport for an early flight. On our way to the airport, at 3:30AM, they were still playing the loud music. I don’t understand why the police did not stop this nuisance. That would never be allowed in my neighbourhood in the U.S.
If Guyana wants to promote tourism, and not annoy their guests, and treat them well, then the authorities need to fix this problem promptly. I would like to return every two years for a visit, but will not, if this problem persists. This is the 21st century, act like civilised people all over the world do – turn the loud music down, and put a limit on how late people can play it. Is that too much to ask for? The Ministers of Tourism and Home Affairs need to do something to fix this problem for the citizens of Guyana and their guests.
Sincerely,
Kris Singh
