Reigning champions Mercenary continued to dominate proceedings thus far in the continuation of the 2022 Ontario Softball Cricket League (OSCL) Regular Season 20-overs competition after marshalling to six wins from as many matches with the latest fixture on Sunday.
Against BetterHope at Ashtonbee Park, Scarborough, Mercenary churned out a 45-run win.
They batted first and rattled up a challenging 121-9 from the 20-overs while BetterHope only responded with 76 all out in the 15th over.
Extras was top-scorer (36) while Rakesh Ramoutar was the only batsman to reach double-figures for BetterHope with 13. Experienced bowler and Canada-based Guyanese, Bholonauth Sukhu, bagged 4-14 from four overs to help with the demolition job while the dynamic Avinash Sookdeo also accounted for four victims, but conceded 15 runs in his four-over display.
When Mercenary batted, Amit Rukhram made 26 while his sibling Avish chpped in with 24. Ashok Ramjaz and Shablall Mohabir took two wickets apiece.
Across at the adjacent Wexford venue, former Guyana Under-19 batsman, Rovendra Mandolall slammed an entertaining 86 to spur Carr Tec to a comprehensive 139-run victory against Essequibo Coast Cricket Club.
Carr Tec galloped to 199-1 from the allotment of 20-overs while Essequibo Coast Cricket Club only reached 60 off 14.3 overs in pursuit of the target.
The right-handed Mandolall, who played with a great degree of relentlessness, smacked nine sixes and five fours while his opening partner, Prabhu Balkarran, was also aggressive as he hit 67 and another ex-Guyana youth player, Eion Katchay, supported with 34 not out.
Kyle Ramsawak made 16 for Essequibo Coast Cricket Club as Monesh Bhoopaul claimed 3-11 from 3.3 overs while Rudy Bhoopaul (brother) snapped up two wickets for 12 runs from four overs.
Down in the West at Oakdale School ground, Caribbean Sensation surged to a comfortable six-wicket win over Fearless Titans. The Titans only mustered an inadequate 61 all out off 13.2 overs while Caribbean Sensation safely surpassed the total in the 15th over losing four wickets in the process.
Zakir Khan produced an excellent performance for Caribbean Sensation by snaring four wickets for just five runs from three frugal overs while Anand Balwant and Richard Driffield bowled well too to assist him with two wickets each. Only Sheikh Parsram with 17 offered a fight for Fearless Titans.
And at Dean Park facility in Scarborough, the action was more intense there as Enmore pulled off an exciting five-wicket win against Bacchus Ruff Riders. Riders made 98-6 from the 20-overs while Enmore got to the target in the 16th over. Mahesh Ramroop led the way for Enmore with 32 not out while skipper Shiv Persaud and Ameer Baksh had useful scores of 26 and 24 respectively.
Azhadeen Amidon and Reynold Tim snatched two wickets apiece for Bacchus Ruff Riders.
In their innings, Amidon also made an impression with the bat by stroking 43 as former Guyana youth cricketer Steve Ramdass picked up three wickets for 21 runs off his four overs, delivering for the victorious combination. The competition continues on Saturday.
