Round-of-16 kicks off tonight

Following a grueling and competitive group stage campaign, eight exciting fixtures in the Round-of-16 section in the Magnum Independence Cup will kick-off this evening at the National Park Tarmac, Thomas Lands.

In the opening match at 19:00hrs, East Front Road will oppose Melanie, while North East La Penitence tackle Beterverwagting (BV) at 19:30hrs, and Showstoppers engage Agricola at 20:00hrs. In the fourth encounter, Future Stars take aim at Stabroek Ballers at 20:30hrs, while defending champion Bent Street lock horns with Belfield from 21:00hrs.
In the final three matches, Back Circle battle Albouystown at 21:30hrs, Gold is Money take aim at Tiger Bay from 22:00hrs, and Sparta Boss face-off with Mocha at 22:30hrs.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday in the final group stage matches at the same venue, Bent Street, Sparta Boss, Back Circle, BV, East Front Road, and Melanie secured comfortable victories.
Bent Street defeated Future Stars 4-2, Sparta Boss dismissed Avocado Ballers 3-1, and Back Circle made light work of Sophia 3-0. Similarly, East Front Road downed Alexander Village 5-3, BV bested Albouystown 5-3, and Melanie defeated Mocha 5-3. On the other hand, Gold is Money defeated Road Warriors via walkover, while Agricola bested Vene Stars in identical fashion.
The quarterfinal section will be staged on Saturday at the same location. The winner of the tournament will collect the package of $700,000, and the championship trophy, while the runner-up will receive $400,000 and the corresponding accolade. The third and fourth place finishers will walk away with $200,000 and $100,000 respectively.
The other sponsors of the event are MVP Sport, Nigel Hind Financial Services, Andrews Supermarket, Bold Expressions Barbershop, Fireside Grill ‘N’ Chill, Star Party Rentals, and Lucozade.
