Kaieteur News – Three persons, a driver and two passengers, were on Saturday robbed of their belongings by two bandits on a motorcycle after their minibus reportedly “broke down” in the vicinity of the Guyana Football Club located at North Road, Georgetown.
Police identified the driver as, Nicholas Samaroo, 31, of East Street, Georgetown and the passengers as a 39-year-old fisherman, Mahindra Ramcobeer of Section ‘N’ Cove & John, East Coast Demerara (ECD), and Cindy Persaud, 23, a housewife of East Street, Georgetown.
The three victims, according to police, were attacked by the bandits around 21:00hrs.
The victims reportedly told investigators that they had just returned from the Georgetown Jubilee Fun Park located at Timehri, East Bank Demerara (EBD) when their bus began having mechanical problems. This forced them to stop a short distance away from the Guyana Football Club. They reportedly stepped out of the vehicle to see what was wrong but while doing so they were attacked by two armed bandits on a motorcycle, one with a handgun and the other with a knife.
The victims recalled that the pillion rider stepped off the motorcycle and pointed the gun to them while demanding that they hand over all their valuables. Fearful for their lives, the victims wasted no time in complying with the bandits’ demand.
They were relieved of $112,000 in cash, a guess handbag valued $10,000, a blue iPhone 13 Pro Max valued at $340,000, an iPhone 11 valued at $200,000 and a J2 Samsung cellphone worth $26,000.
The bandits reportedly escaped with their stolen booty in a western direction along North Road.
An investigation is ongoing.
