Dear Editor,
Thanks to KN and Glenn Lall, many people around the world are now knowing the true costs to Guyana and Guyanese of what the exploitation of Guyana’s oil and other resources are, a few of us has known this all along, but it was KN and Glenn Lall that has brought this to centrestage. Some PPP supporters like me are now watching with dumbfounded disbelief as, the PPP government is siding with the oil companies and fighting against their own people for taxes that Guyana should have rightfully received to fund its much needed social spending programmes, also the PPP Government failure to address insurance and environmental concerns, the government instead rails against people who brings us these issues. However, with all the information presented by Glenn Lall, Guyanese still have not responded in numbers as they should have, for many, criticising one’s party is to support the rival party so they stay silent, many does not understand the true value of Guyana’s Resource Losses, as Guyanese basically have a small minded mentality, just be better than your neighbour as progress, not knowing what the real big prize is, which is over two trillion US Dollars, the whole world knows this except Guyanese it seems, as their lackadaisical behaviour towards this issue continues, so far after three years of oil production, Guyana has received 600 million and a bill for 9.5 billion USD and everything about this oil contract continues to be secretive. The rice farmers in Berbice have woken up, the message was sent to the Government, fix the problems they promised when they took office or leave, as in this world, with supply chain issues and the war in Ukraine, the price of grain has skyrocketed, but rice framers can’t get good prices for their paddy. Guyanese however, cannot be blamed for their lackadaisical attitude towards the resources exploitation as most Guyanese live on the coast and most of the resource mining take place in the interior and the oil drilling is offshore, both out of sight. So battle on KN and Glenn Lall, my recommendation to wake Guyanese up is for you to make a new T-shirt slogan GUYANA IS WORTH OVER 2 TRILLION $US DOLLARS – WHERE IS MY SHARE? Answering this question will be uncomfortable for parliamentarians both opposition and ruling and those aspiring to be in government, mostly it will be uncomfortable for the foreigners who walk around as if they own Guyana, as in every revolution it start with a powerful message, that is message I propose.
R. David
