Jan 14, 2022 Letters
Dear Mr. Editor,
Kaieteur News – On Sunday, January 9, 2022 in the letter section of the Kaieteur News, Jai Lall wrote and I quote “One of Guyana’s leading historian, sociologist, philosopher, political analyst, critique, lecturer, academia, researcher, educationist, writer, columnist, reporter and an achiever in a host of other accomplishments, Freddie Kissoon”, which I endorse and the full contents of the letter. I have been reading Freddie’s articles for many years and I thoroughly enjoyed his writing. I have not yet seen an article from that great gentleman on the raging debate on the oil in Guyana which is very puzzling to me. I have read Chartered Accountant and Attorney-at-law Christopher Ram, telecommunications expert Yog Mahadeo and Jonathan Yearwood and many others. Glenn Lall who is mounting a campaign against the oil contract where he is trying to educate Guyanese about the deficiencies in the contract. Mr. Lall is on the social media TikTok and on Kaieteur Radio, three days a week on his call-in show. He has been outlining the inadequacies of the contract and informing Guyanese about the path their country is going. Furthermore, he is trying to organise a national demonstration. However, a demonstration was held on the same day the Assembly voted for passing of the NRF Bill. It was reported that the leader of the PNC/R Mr. Norton was present but no mention of Freddie. Did Freddie attend? I was listening to the Glenn Lall Show just before Christmas where a caller asked about Freddie’s silence on the oil debate. Mr. Lall defended Freddie and other journalists’ silence by saying that Freddie like his politics and the other journalist are not knowledgeable about the oil. I totally disagree, this honourable gentleman gets involved in any public issue so long it affects the lives of Guyanese. I have read many articles by Freddie being critical of the judiciary, police, the banking sector, roundabouts, post office, GTT, ethnic groups and many more and they are not political issues. I am surprise that such a national issue Freddie has not written on. He is a great researcher and if he lacks the knowledge, he will research the topic and return with very compelling points. In my view, this debate is lacking the input of Freddie’s views whether for or against. If he shares the views of Mr. Lall and they come together, it will be a tsunami in Guyana because people from all walks of life will join. Finally, persons within the Caribbean are asking the question, where is Master Freddie, the researcher, philosopher and the political analyst? Freddie, we are waiting to read your views.
Sincerely,
Morris Springer
