Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – I read the letters about the noise pollution during Diwali and I remember 10 years ago during the Christmas and New Year’s week. One of my pets was sensitive to the noise and I had to hug her all the time as the “bombs” went off outside. This noise pollution started more than a decade ago at the year-end holiday season. That it has escalated to what it is now, is no great surprise. This is what results when people are lazy and wait for someone else to do the work. Now the blame will be on Hindus because it is our sacred day that this has happened. Just wait until next month and see if it be any different.
One commentator mentioned about the Home Affairs Minister; what does he really do? A pandit was bludgeoned to death right outside his front gate under this minister’s watch. His Police Force did not respond or else the pandit’s life may have been saved. Neither Minister of Home Affairs nor the Minister of Social Services, herself a Hindu leader did not visit the widow.
What assurance does anyone have that they will not get murdered in front of their own home should some drunk man decides to come and molest your girl children? What protection does women and children have under these two ministers? Do these people care about the ordinary folks in Guyana much less the animals? Ten years ago, my “Pebbles” were traumatised by the noise during the Christmas/New Year holidays now it has spread to contaminate Diwali. And in the meantime, both aforementioned ministers sleep on like Rip Van Winkle.
Yours truly,
N. Sahadeo
