Kaieteur News – A motorcyclist, on Friday allegedly assaulted two police patrol ranks and then turned himself in.
The incident occurred sometime after 12:00 hrs. at Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).
According to police reports, the ranks were at the time conducting an anti-crime patrol when they spotted Hinds standing next to a partly stripped motorcycle parked at the side of the road. They decided to stop and approach Hinds. The ranks recalled that he started to act in a nervous manner.
The ranks claimed that his movements prompted them to search him and examine the motorcycle thoroughly. They told him of their intentions and Hinds complied. Upon completion, the ranks asked him to produce the documents for the motorcycle, which he did.
It was while going through those documents that the ranks noticed that although the registration number in the documents matched that bike’s number plate, it did not correspond with the chassis number.
They told Hinds of their observation, but he began behaving disorderly, claiming that his bike was not a stolen bike.
The ranks claimed that they warned him to desist from such actions but he continued. The ranks further claimed that they then cautioned Hinds that they will take him along with his motorcycle to the Leonora Police Station.
Instead of complying, the ranks reported, Hinds resorted to cursing even louder attracting a large crowd.
One rank according to police proceeded to caution Hinds and arrest him. However, while in the process of doing so, Hinds resisted and began beating both of the ranks before escaping.
The ranks took possession of the motorbike and reported the matter, before they were taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital for treatment. Doctors there attended them and sent them away.
When the ranks returned to police station, they saw Hinds in the Enquiries department and pointed him out as their assaulter.
He was arrested right away and taken into custody but complained that the ranks beat him up too.
Hinds was taken to the hospital as well where doctors treated him and sent him back to the Station. He has since been processed and released on $25,000 station bail as investigations continue.
