12 months jail for Demerara Bridge copper cable thief
…businessman on $300,000 bail for receiving stolen article
(Kaieteur News) – The man who admitted to stealing $1.6 million worth of copper cable from the Demerara River Bridge was jailed on Friday, while the businessman at whose home the cable was found was charged with receiving stolen property.

Jailed for 12 months is Roy Morgan, 39, who was charged with simple larceny. Morgan was arrested on Wednesday, 2nd September, 2026, and appeared on Friday at the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Dylon Bess, where he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Granted bail, Mustafid Pashaw
Meanwhile, Albouystown businessman Mustafid Pashaw, called “Mustaf”, 51, of Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo, was charged with receiving stolen articles.
He appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Faith McGusty.
Pashaw was not required to plead to the charge and was subsequently granted bail in the sum of $300,000, with the condition that he report to the Ruimveldt Police Station on the third Friday of every month.
The matter was adjourned to 2nd October, 2026.
