Kaieteur News – Tragedy struck the community of Bartica last evening after a jealous man went berserk and burnt his house down killing his wife and her two children.
Reports reaching Kaieteur News suggested that around 22:40 hrs. the charred remains of a mother and her two kids were removed from a burnt house.
Commander of Region Seven, Dion Moore confirmed the tragedy and told this newspaper that it took place at Four Miles Squatting Area, Potaro Road, Bartica. He also added that the suspect who ranks believed committed the heinous crime was arrested and taken into custody.
Sources told Kaieteur News that the alleged perpetrator of arson/murder was the dead woman’s husband – it is unclear however if they two children are the suspect’s. The man reportedly overheard his wife conversing with another man via cellphone and became annoyed. A brief argument ensued and the man reportedly left and “went on the road”. However, he subsequently returned with a flammable liquid and matches, which he then used to light the house on fire. According to a source, persons in the area heard screaming and then they saw a bright light.
In a video sent to this media house, the remains of the occupants being consumed by the blaze were visible. The police and fire service were called in and the fire was extinguished, after which the skeletal remains of the woman and her children were then removed.
