Kaieteur News – The APNU+AFC Coalition have taken note of the ruling of the Chief Justice, Madame Roxane George-Wiltshire, in the case of Ms. Oneidge Walrond-Allicock’s status as a Member of Parliament.
The Chief Justice’s ruling vindicates the APNU+AFC’s position that Ms. Walrond-Allicock was an illegal Member of Parliament and Minister.
The PPP/C regime knowingly swore her in while she was a dual citizen. Ms. Walrond-Allicock was fully aware that she was not qualified to be sworn in. This is shameful and contemptuous of the Constitution and people of Guyana by both Ms. Walrond-Allicock and the PPP/C regime. It constitutes a grave and egregious violation of the Constitution and is a disrespect to every citizen of the land.
Ms. Walrond-Allicock’s deliberate actions were grossly dishonourable and deceitful. The ruling renders Ms. Walrond-Allicock as unfit to serve in Parliament or government and any attempt to swear her in at a later date will be strongly resisted.
The usually braggadocious but now hapless and blundering Attorney General, Anil Nandlall, had no option but to admit, in open court, that the PPP/C and Ms. Walrond-Allicock’s actions were unconstitutional and illegal.
Further, it is our view that all actions, appointments and decisions made and taken by Ms. Walrond-Allicock while she was an illegal Minister are null and void and of no consequence or effect. The PPP/C must now rescind every such action, appointment and decision, consistent with the ruling of the Chief Justice.
Ms. Walrond-Allicock must now refund the state, in full, all funds expended on her salary and emoluments since August 2 to present. It is incumbent on Ms. Walrond-Allicock that she offers an unqualified public apology to the nation for her wilful and barefaced attempt to deceive the people of Guyana and the breach of the Constitution.
The APNU+AFC Coalition thank the Chief Justice for her ruling as we remain steadfast in standing up for and fervently upholding the Constitution and laws of Guyana.
We also thank Senior Counsel Roysdale Forde, MP, for his astute and compelling submissions to the court and his representation of Chief Whip, Christopher Jones, MP, in the matter.
