Vendor killed in hit-and-run following birthday celebrations

A vendor was yesterday killed in a suspected hit-and-run along the Mon Repos Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara (ECD), mere hours after celebrating his 23rd birthday.
Dead is Devanand Bansie, 23, of lot 27 Mon Repos, Railway Embankment.
According to police reports, Bansie might have been struck down between the 02:00 and 04:00hrs.
Details are sketchy as to how Bansie met with the accident. However, investigators revealed that after his birthday celebrations, he went to his home at around 02:00hrs and reportedly found his door locked and that he was unable to enter.
It is believed that Bansie might have left as a result and ventured onto the Railway Embankment roadway where he was struck down by a speeding car.
At around 04:00hrs that morning, a resident awoke to the sight of Bansie’s body lying on the southern side of the Railway Embankment.
Paramedic and police were called to the scene to examine the man’s body and it was subsequently transported to the Lyken’s Funeral Home.
Investigations are ongoing.
