Miner surprised after police arrest worker for Berbice murder

Police in Region 8, acting on information yesterday, arrested a man wanted for the murder of a male resident of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice.

In police custody is Donald Shariff called “Ducky”, 29 of Lot 11 Patrick Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam.
He was wanted for questioning in connection with the murder of Keron Nicholson which occurred on March 8th, 2020.
According to the police, acting on information received, at about 12:30 hrs yesterday, ranks ventured to Stone Creek Backdam, Mahdia, Region 8 and arrested Shariff.
Region 8 Commander, Ramesh Ashram, told Kaieteur News that Shariff was found working in one of the mining camps located within the backdam. The man made no attempts to evade arrest and willingly cooperated with the ranks.
According to Ashram, Shariff’s boss had not the slightest idea that his worker was wanted for murder and was reportedly surprised after the arrest was made.
He is presently in police custody at the Mahdia Police Station waiting to be escorted to Georgetown.
Initial reports by this publication had detailed that Nicholson and Shariff were engaged in a heated argument at Angoy’s Avenue when it turned physical.
Shariff reportedly dealt Nicholson several blows and stabs about his body until he collapsed.
Relatives, who were nearby, had rushed out to Nicholson’s aid and immediately rushed him to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he was admitted in a critical condition.
However, due to the extent of his injuries, he was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed 10 days later.
Shariff had managed to escape and had gone into hiding but police had issued a wanted bulletin for him shortly after.
