May 08, 2020 Letters
Dear Editor,
Veteran trade unionist and comrade Komal Chand died on April 08, 2020. The Clerical & Commercial Workers’ Union (CCWU), on behalf of its executives and members, wishes to extend its deepest sympathy to sorrowing relatives and friends of comrade Komal Chand. We worked together with the Guyana Agricultural and Workers Union many years and established a great friendship and brotherhood.
His passing is also great loss to the trade union movement at the international, regional and national levels in which he served with distinction. He has been a stalwart in the movement and had always been working for reconciliation at the workplaces and the broader society.
The name of Comrade Komal Chand is now a household name in Guyana and further afield because of his significant contribution. At the end of life, what really matters is not what we bought, but what we built; not what we got, but what we shared; not our competence, but our character; and not our success, but our significance. May his soul rest in peace.
Yours faithfully,
Sherwood Clarke
President, Clerical & Commercial Workers’ Union
