Hardat Dyal, 26, a cane harvester of Adelphi Village, East Canje, Berbice appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh in the Reliance Magistrate’s Court on a charge of break and enter and larceny.
He is accused of on Sunday April 23, last, at Adelphi Village, East Canje, Berbice he broke and entered the premises of Dhanlachmie Dhani, 62, and stole a quantity of groceries worth $200,000.
The prosecution’s case is that the woman is a shop keeper. She secured her premises and went out. Upon her return she noticed the place broken into and the items missing. A report was made and Dyal along with two others was arrest and charged.
He was found guilty and jailed for three years.
Two other men, Nigel Persaud, 23, of Adelphi pleaded guilty earlier and were sentenced to six months in jail while David Karran of the same village opted to pay compensation.
