DEAR EDITOR,
As mentioned towards the end of the article, Guyana will not need the Chinese money, we will have the oil money.
Our strategy has to be to not keep any debt with the Chinese. We will have the money to not be indebted to them.
I welcome the interest of the Chinese GOVERNMENT in helping the development of countries like Guyana.
The American companies mentioned in the article are merely businesses. They are not in our country to develop it. They are there to make money.
Guyana needs technical and experienced help from developed countries.
USAID is not offering this level of developmental help to us…. neither are the other traditional friends like Canada and the UK.
Guyana has to use China to its advantage to help develop the country FAST. In doing so, Guyana must also ensure that only skills that are unavailable in Guyana are imported to work on the projects.
The projects mentioned in the article are very good ones.
Gerry King
