The fact that the criminals are scrambling for money does not escape notice. They will strike again in the eastern part of the country, robbing businessmen and even households that have no visible wealth. But it will not be plain sailing, because the police, safe in the knowledge that the city is under control, will deploy ranks to the new crime hotspots.

A Guyanese will make international headlines for the wrong reason. He will commit a murder during a quarrel over drugs. He will be arrested, but the media will make use of the fact that Guyana is a drug transshipment point.

Fake news or false information will be rampant in the wake of the race for the presidency. Social media will be reporting on non-events and thus will be fuelling animosity among the people.
