Kitty biker dead, pillion rider injured in collision

A late night collision on Thursday has left one dead and the other injured after a motorcycle collided with a truck around 23:00hrs near Pearl, on the East Bank Demerara public road.

Dead Devon Atkinson called “Wild Buck”.

Dead is Devon Atkinson, also called “Wild Buck”, 33, of Lot 31 Railway Line, Kitty Georgetown.
Atkinson had reportedly visited a bar on the East Bank of Demerara shortly before the accident occurred.
According to reports, a truck driver was proceeding north and was about to turn into a lumber yard while Atkinson, who was riding CD 7536 and towing a pillion rider, was proceeding in the same direction.
He reportedly failed to stop and collided with the truck. He was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The pillion rider who was said to be female was treated and sent away.
The truck driver, said to be a 36 year old resident of Kuru Kuru, underwent a breathalyser test, which reportedly showed that he was way above the legal limit for alcohol consumption.
Atkinson was remanded on July 17th, for having an unlicensed gun in his possession. He was charged for discharging a loaded firearm while partying at a creek on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway a few days before.
He appeared before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Providence Magistrate’s Court where the charge was read to him. Atkinson denied the charge which stated that on July 14, 2019, at the Soesdyke/Linden Highway, he had in his possession a Bushmaster Carbon 15 AR-15 Pistol when he was not a licensed firearm holder.
Atkinson was represented by attorney-at-law Siand Dhurjon who made a bail application for his client to be released on a reasonable sum of bail. According to reports, on the day in question Atkinson was at a creek partying outside the Splashmin’s Resort when he whipped out the gun and fired several shots.
