ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A Guyanese woman who had hired a man to obtain an HIV test in her name after arriving in the Virgin Islands in April 2019 has been sentenced to six months in jail.
Sentencing was handed down by Magistrate Ayanna O. Baptiste-DaBreo yesterday.
Lolita Callender-Skelton aka ‘Lola Doll’, 28, had been charged with Conspiracy to Impersonate on April 26, 2019. She had appeared before the Magistrate’s Court and was granted bail in the amount of $60,000 with $20,000 being cash. Unable to post bail, Callender-Skelton, who is said to be a model, was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison.
Her attorney, Stephen R. Daniels, had subsequently applied for a No case Submission, but this was denied by the courts and the matter went to trial, where the defendant was found guilty.
Some 6 persons had testified on behalf of the Prosecution while the Defence had no witnesses.
