Andaiye, A.A., women’s activist and former executive member of the Working People’s Alliance (WPA) was laid to rest, yesterday.

The funeral service was held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre.
Many were in attendance paying their respects, among them several Government ministers. They included Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman, Minister of Public Service, Tabitha Sarabo-Halley, Minister of Public Telecommunications, Catherine Hughes and Minister within the Ministry of Social Protection, Keith Scott.
Tributes were made by several members of the WPA, women activists and members of the opposition.
Andaiye was cremated at the Good Hope Cremation Site.
Andaiye, died on Friday, May 31, 2019 at the age of 77, after a prolonged battle with cancer.
In 1997, she was awarded the Golden Arrow of Achievement. She was a founding member of Red Thread Guyana in 1986. She was also an executive member of the Caribbean Association for Feminist Research and Action (CAFRA).
She worked with the Women and Development Unit of the University of the West Indies (WAND) from 1987 to 1992, and from 1987 to 1996 with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
