A 16-year-old female student of the Corentyne Comprehensive High School, is currently in “critical” condition after som
e classmates mixed an unknown substance into her water bottle.
A relative of the young girl told Kaieteur News that she had left her classroom to go to the school’s laboratory, when two of her male classmates took her water bottle and mixed something into it.
Kaieteur News understands that when the girl came back to class, she drank her water. Then, not long after, she started to cry out in pain.
Her mother reportedly picked her up from school and took her to a private clinic to be treated by a Doctor Narine.
But then the girl was later transferred to New Amsterdam Public Hospital, because she wasn’t showing signs of improvement.
A relative said that the hospital has been medicating her, and that she’s currently on saline.
Kaieteur News was told that last night, she wasn’t walking or talking; only crying out for pain about her body. The relative described her condition as critical.
The police reportedly questioned the two boys, who said that the substance they put in her water was “drinking salts”; a colloquial synonym for Epsom salts. But the relative argued that it’s unlikely they’re telling the truth, since it’s uncommon for Epsom salts to produce those symptoms.
