Akeem Bacon, a security guard, was yesterday granted bail when he appeared before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus on a fraud charge.
He was brought to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts after an arrest warrant was issued for him when he failed to appear the previous date to
answer his charge.
It was alleged that between February 15, last, and February 17, last, at Mandela Avenue, Bacon, being solely entrusted by Oscar Schultz with $120,000, he fraudulently converted the money to his own use and benefit.
Bacon pleaded not guilty.
The unrepresented defendant told the court that he is 28 years old and hails from Lot 506 Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
In 2018, Bacon was slapped with charges of assault and simple larceny. He was accused of assaulting Patrima Isaacs, so as to cause her actual bodily harm on October 13, 2018 at West Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
The other charge against him stated that on the same date and location, he stole one Android cellular phone valued $60,000, property of Isaacs.
Police prosecutor Vishnu Hunte had no objections to bail in relation to the fraud charge and as such bail was granted in the sum of $50,000. The defendant is expected to make his next court appearance on June 3, 2019.
