Partnering with organisations such as the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) is an integral part of consumer protection, in ensuring that standards are developed in accordance with the Consumer Affairs Association (CAA) .
In 2018 as dictated by the Consumers Affairs Official Report, Mrs. Feyona Austin Paul , of the CAA represented the Commission at the Toys and Playthings Standard Development Committee. Additionally, Mrs. Austin Paul attend a meeting in Barbados to discuss draft Regulations of the CARICOM Model Consumer Affairs Bill 2016
Ms. Troleish Barry continued to represent the Commission on the National Electro Technical Committee which continues to develop new electrical standards for that industry.
The Commission collaborated with the Bureau of Standards and accepted a request from International Consultant and Director of Excellence in Automobile Assessment (EAA) in Japan. The purpose of the meeting was to facilitate the discussion of a Pre shipment Inspection programme for used vehicles being imported from Japan.
The notion of developing regulations of the CAA was put forward to the Commission by the CAU in the past; which was welcomed and further research was encouraged. There is currently one drafted regulation developed by Consultant Masmilliano Ghanji for the CAU.
The Commission along with the Department of Consumer Affairs, were invited to participate in a meeting hosted by the Working Group on Consumer Protection in Commerce on the 7th November 2018. Ms. Troleisha Barry was asked to represent for the CAU.
This meeting was chaired by Ms. Ebru Gokce Dessemond , Legal Officer, Competition and Consumer Policies Branch, International Trade Division, UNCTAD.
The aim of this meeting was to discuss the method of work of the Working Group on Consumer Protection in Commerce
