Apr 26, 2019 Letters
DEAR EDITOR,
In his letter “Chris Ram should be one of the Leaders of a new government, President David Granger has been a disappointment and Ali is loaded with negatives (SN, 25th April 2019) Mr. Emile Mervin makes some interestingly good points. VERY GOOD letter Emile Mervin.
I think that Chris Ram is well suited as an unbiased Advocate.
President Granger means well but his Leadership, and Decency, has not REFORMED his compadres.
Irfaan Ali will do as Bharrat Jagdeo wants and not what the people deserves.
I have great HOPE that Lenox Shuman’s Liberty and Justice Party (LJP) will transform Guyana politics as NEITHER the PPP/C nor the PNC led APNU+AFC will have an outright majority. In this respect, the next General Election will usher in THE BEGINNING of CHANGE for Guyana’s politics and Guyanese Society.
As for President David Granger’s health…everyone wishes him well but as Emile Mervin acknowledge he will not be there forever. From his letter, Emile Mervin seems to be shunning APNU+AFC “Younger Blood” as successors for David Granger opting for Chris Ram. I think that many Guyanese know that BOTH the PPP/C and the APNU+AFC are failing Guyanese and are observing things cynically. Cynically speaking, Guyanese are not voting for who is BEST for Guyana (and Guyanese). Guyanese are voting for who is not worst for Guyana (or who can do the least damage).
I have noted, with dismay, that Bharrat Jagdeo has indicated that he will not support a “newbie” as Presidential Candidate for the PPP/C. That is why One-Person, One-Vote exists, which is why the PPP needs to change the way it selects its Leaders.
There is still time before the next General Election for the PPP to change its Presidential Candidate to a “Newbie”. As was noted earlier, President David Granger will not be there forever NOR WILL BHARRAT JAGDEO be in the PPP forever.
Yours faithfully
Sean Ori
