The Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO), Inter-Jamaat 15-overs Softball Cricket competition is set to conclude tomorrow night at the Demerara Cricket Club ground. An exciting afternoon of cricket is anticipated as some of the leading softball players will be in action.
MYO, Diamond New Scheme, New Amsterdam and Tuschen Train Station Masjid have secured their places in the final four. MYO is touted as strong favourites. They possess a balanced team which includes Saheed Gittens, Javid Kayum, Richard Latiff, Safraz Esau,Timor Mohamed, Shafeek Ishmael and Majeed Khan.
Diamond New Scheme Jamaat is a strong team with some seasoned players. A no-nonsense top order that can be destru
ctive on any given day, with the likes of Rawl Reid, Ameer Khan, Patrick Khan and Rickey Sargeant.
From the Ancient County of Berbice, New Amsterdam has created quite a stir in the preliminary stages of the competition and will be looking to go all the way. The side includes Keion De Jesus who has the tournament’s highest score of 122 against LBI and Wahab Riaz who took the best bowling figures of 7-16 in the same game.
New comers Tuschen Train Station Masjid are considered the underdogs, but they are good enough to create an upset with the likes of Anthony Kandar, Harry Singh, Daniel Chunoo and Timothy Persaud in their team.
The semi-finals which are schedule to start at 14:30hrs and will be played simultaneously with MYO facing New Amsterdam Masjid and Diamond New Scheme battling Tuschen Train Station Masjid.
The third place game, a 10-over affair will be played following the semifinals while the final will commence at 18:30hrs.
