Windwards romp to second victory, B’dos earns first win as Guyana lose

ST JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – The Windward Islands recorded their second victory in as many matches when the Regional Under-15 Super50 Cup continued here yesterday.
They registered an easy five-wicket victory over Jamaica, thanks to another superb bowling effort.
After bundling out the Leewards for just 82 yesterday, they dismissed Jamaica for only 97, with Devin Tyson who took 3-9, Solomon Bascombe (3-32) and Shawnil Edwards who took two wickets being the main destroyers.
Despite a few jitters near the end of the match where they lost three quick wickets for 15 runs, the Windwards comfortably reached their target, finishing on 98 for five off 22.1 overs.
Stephen Abraham hit the topscore of 34, while there were useful contributions from the middle order batsmen.
Defending champions Barbados notched their first win of the competition, as they defeated Guyana by 95 runs despite a sterling century from Mavindra Dindyal.
Barbados were led to victory by a strong batting performance which saw them amass 332 for seven off their 50 overs.
Kamario Grant (89) and Joshua Morris, who made 72, both stroked half-centuries for Barbados, which also got good contributions from Rashad Worrell who made 41, Dave Lovell who finished unbeaten on 30 and Micaiah Simmons who also scored 30 runs.
Grant and Worrell rescued their team from a worrying 151 for five, adding 76 runs for the sixth wicket. And when Worrell lost his wicket, Grant teamed up with Lovell to add a further 95 runs.
Alvin Mohabir was the pick of Guyana’s bowlers taking 3-52.
Lovell then returned to wreak havoc with the ball as well, claiming three scalps as Guyana faltered in their run chase apart from Dindyal’s brilliant knock.
As wickets fell around him, he mixed patience with aggression during his 126 from 120 balls. His innings was laced with 17 boundaries and one six.
But once he was dismissed with the score 197 for four, the other middle-order batsmen struggled to find a rhythm, with the overs eventually petering out with Guyana well short of their target.

At Coolidge Cricket Grounds: Windward Islands won by five wickets.
JAMAICA 97 all out off 29.2 overs (Steven Wedderburn 37; Devin Tyson 3-9, Solomon Bascombe 3-32; Shawnil Edwards 2-21).
WINDWARD ISLANDS 98 for five off 22.1 overs (Stephen Abraham 34; Jordan Johnson 2-25).
