Amna calls out PPP for duping Annai residents

Minister of Social Protection, Amna Ally, has publicly condemned the opposition PPP and its presidential candidate, Irfaan Ali, for what she describes as “duping” the people of Annai in Region Nine.
According to a media release from her office, Minister Ally says that the PPP sought to use her good name, to gain the support of the Indigenous people for a meeting in the region.
She views the act as “desperate and weak”.
“That they sought to use my good name, instead of their presidential candidate’s name, is proof positive of how desperate and weak the PPP has become. They have lost the support of our Indigenous peoples who came out in their thousands over the past three days to demonstrate their support for the Coalition Government,” Minister Ally stated.
The minister said this dishonest action by the PPP represents a new low in Guyana’s political culture and that she unreservedly condemns it in the strongest possible terms.
“The PPP has become so weak and unpopular that they have admitted that they can no longer use their own name to attract people to their events, and are now using the name of the Coalition Government and our leaders to mislead people into attending their events.”

She added that the act was “reprehensible and appalling”.
Minister Ally further added that she was in receipt of credible information from multiple sources in Annai, that PPP activists in the area told several residents that she would host the meeting at the Annai Benab, at 11:00hrs on Monday.
“Residents felt betrayed and duped. Many of them left and returned to their homes without listening to the PPP officials,” the minister said.
She is advising the people of Annai and the wider Rupununi and Guyanese at large, that at no time did she or her staff schedule a meeting in Annai for Monday, February 18, 2019.
The Social Protection Minister stated that the meetings she held over the weekend were at Parishara and Hiawa on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Adding that this weekend’s ministerial trip to the region was indeed historic, and as per schedule, Minister Winston Felix held a meeting in Annai and Minister Ronald Bulkan also visited the area over the weekend.
“I wish to thank the people of the Rupununi for their overwhelming turnout and look forward to engaging with them again very soon,” noted Minister Ally. (DPI)
