Berbice were crowned champions of the Guyana Cricket Board Senior Female Inter County T20 tournament following a six-wicket victory over Demerara yesterday at Bourda.
Berbice produced an outstanding bowling display to restrict Demerara for 57-9, batting first.
Pacer Subrina Munroe provided Berbice with the breakthrough by having Keisha Fraser caught for eight before Sheneta Grimmond removed Lashanna Toussaint for 10, leaving Demerara at 24-2.
The Berbicians continued to maintain a steady line and only Akaze Thompson of the remaining batters managed double figures with 16 as Demerara were limited to 57-9.
Erva Giddings claimed 3-9 and Munroe 2-16.
Berbice lost Melanie Henry for two and Marian Samaroo for nine, both falling to Kaysia Schultz, leaving the score at 24-2, in reply. Giddings (06) and Tremayne Smartt (00) fell cheaply. However, Grimmond, who rotated the strike nicely, remained unbeaten on 31 to see her team home as they finished on 58-4 in 12 overs.
Sherica Campbelle was on one not out as Thompson and Schultz took two wickets each.
Earlier, the Select Under-19 defeated Essequibo by 50 runs.
Due to overnight showers, the game was reduced to seven overs. Select Under-19 batted first, and posted 79 for 3. Opening batters, Shabika Gajnabi and Mandy Mangru scored 41 and 13 respectively. Bowling for Essequibo, Oneicia Stoby, Avina Adrian and Wavney King collected one wicket each. In reply, Essequibo mustered 29 for 1 in seven overs. Kumarie Persaud was the only batter to attain double figures, with 11 not out. Mandy Mangru was the lone wicket taker. Shabika Gajnabi was awarded player of the match. Berbice also won the 50 overs format.
