Appearing for the second time in court was Kieran “Romeo” Jeenarine, the 18-year-old who was charged with the double murder of the Samaroo brothers from Bush Lot Village, West Coast Berbice.
He appeared at the Springlands Magistrate Court before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh, represented by his attorney Charlyn Artiga.
Tuesday was set for the full disclosure of statements. However the prosecutor, Inspector Joseph, informed the court that the file was still incomplete.
Artiga argued that it was unfair for Jeenarine to be hauled before the court on a charge of murder since based on her information, Jeenarine never gave police a caution statement.
She stated, “There is a possession of one (caution statement) but they are refusing to disclose it.”
Artiga added, “From what I understand, that is the only evidence that they have and I am respectfully requesting that caution statement.”
The attorney also offered to foot the bill for the photocopying of the statements to assist in speeding up the process of handing it over.
Jeenarine was further remanded until February 4, where the full disclosure of statements is expected to be given by the prosecution at the Whim Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Renita Singh.
Kieran “Romeo” Jeenarine was slapped with two counts of murder committed on his relatives Harricharran Samaroo and Premcharran Samaroo, of Bush Lot Village, Corentyne, Berbice. The charge had read that the act was committed during the course of a robbery on December 31, 2018. Both men were shot and killed during the invasion.
Jeenarine turned himself over to police in the company of his attorney, Charlyne Artiga at the Whim Police Station and he reportedly confessed a day later to being a part of the planning of the crime.
The police had issued wanted bulletins for Kieran Jeenarine and another suspect who is yet to be located, Kelvin Balgobin.
Kaieteur News had reported that three armed, masked men invaded the home of Irene Samaroo and shot and killed her two sons during the course of a robbery. The men reportedly stole approximately $80,000 in Guyana and US currency, altogether.
