Police ‘B’ Division boasts of successful 2018

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) ‘B’ Division, Berbice, has announced that 2018 was a successful year for community and social activities.
It disclosed that close to 1000 youths in the Ancient County have so far benefitted from community youth empowerment and skills enhancement programme, since its establishment in 2015.
The Division, which is under the command of Assistant Commissioner Paul Langevine, and Second in command, Superintendent Wayne DeHearte, continues with a number of initiatives that will see the youths benefit from cooperating with the Police.
One of the projects involves the Community Relations Department of the Force; it focuses mainly on providing youths from ages eight to 21 years, with essential training in several disciplines.
So far, approximately 20 groups have been established throughout the county, which benefits close to 1,000 youngsters.

Some of the areas, which the group members are exposed are: Information Technology (IT), auto repairs, welding and fabrication, cosmetology, hairdressing and cake decoration. They also benefited from subjects such as workforce enhancement, environmental and crime prevention activities. The programmes are focused on channeling the energies and attention of the youths in a positive direction.
The groups meet weekly with the aim of creating a healthy social environment and aid in their interpersonal skills. They also reach out to the community in different forms. This act demonstrates that the police are not only about apprehending violators of the law, but also work at preventing persons from becoming potential offenders and responding to social concerns and issues as far as practicable.
Members are also engaged in several cops and faith activities, by providing counselling and empathizing with families who were victims of various disasters.
The ‘B’ Division has been boasting of success since the programme was launched, especially in the area of Social Crime Protection Programme and other Initiatives.
Participants also participated in the Drug Abuse Reduction Education (DARE) programme and other social issues.
The Division plans to continue where it left off in 2018 with more initiatives that will enhance relations between the police and the various communities. There activities are expected to include youth as well as adults.
The division recently hosted its annual Christmas light up and a number of children parties in the various sub divisions.
