Recently, one is hearing about presidential candidates; Frank Anthony, Anil Nandlall, Irfaan Ali, on one hand, and on the other side, Basil Williams Harmon and Volda and I began wondering where the PPP candidates emerged from.
I was a supporter of the PPP and I followed the involvement of Rajendra Bisessar and wondered why is he not a presidential candidate. But no; the persons I called from the PPP were not senior to him. All of them were placed on top by Bharrat while people like Rajendra were pushed aside. They say because “he like talk” meaning he likes to criticize. The PPP leaders like ‘yes men’.
Bisessar worked like a donkey for the PPP. I know he used his car like it was PPP property. He drove, he planned sports, he organized the workers and I put him as one of the best writers defending the PPP. He took on Freddie, Stella, Peeping Tom and others. His columns in Kaieteur News taught me a lot.
In my opinion, he was brighter than all those who today want to be president. They were little boys when Bisessar was risking his life and struggling against the PNC. He was tortured; licks like peas and was locked up many times.
Bisessar put Guyana first and he likes the ordinary people. Bisessar fought the government for money and he set up the poverty programme at Human Services Ministry. He used to run it and he helped so many people.
I know that the building where the eye hospital is at Port Mourant was Bisessar project. It was to be a counselling centre concentrating on suicide and other counselling. But the PPP did not use it for that.
All Bisessar’s family and relatives live in Canada and the USA but he stayed here to struggle. He struggled against the PNC then when the PPP sold out the working people and turned corrupt; he criticized them too.
Bisessar is one man who doesn’t care if he suffers. He sticks to his principles and that’s why I am calling upon him to form a party because he would represent the working people.
I know Bisessar was selected to be the Junior Minister of Agriculture. The AFC leaders have to say why he did not get the job. They stabbed him in the back but they stab themselves too because the Minister does not know what to do. I am sure if Bisessar were there, things at GuySuCo would have been better.
So I am calling on Mr. Rajendra Bisessar to step up and form a working class party to represent ordinary people
