The third edition of Matarkai Sports Committee in collaboration with New image Barber Shop and Platinum General Store floodlights football tournament got underway on Wednesday with three exciting matches which saw Razor FC, Citrus Grove Young Gunners FC and Talons FC recording victories at Oronoque Tarmac, Port Kaituma.
Watched by approximately 1000 vociferous fans, Razor FC defeated Future Stars FC 2-0 as the flamboyant Kevin Thomas nailed the first within 12 minutes of play, while the versatile Andy McL
ennon buried the 2nd in the 27th minutes of the second half.
Citrus Grove Young Gunners FC defeated Platinum FC 2-1 in their match up. Leroy Domingo put Citrus Grove Young Gunners ahead from the penalty spot within three minutes of play before Ornaldo Cupido found the equaliser one minute later. However, Cornell St. Romain netted in the 15th minute which proved to be the decider as Citrus Grove Young Gunners defended well in the second half.
In the final game of the night, Talons FC overcame New Image Barber Shop FC 2-0. Dixon Benjamin opened the scoring for Talons FC with a beautiful banana volley in the 6th minute, while the skillful Kenwin Beharry stretched the lead two minutes later. The competition continued last night with defending champs Blazers 7 playing Wolf PAC.
Meanwhile, Brian’s Boutique has joined the list of sponsors on board so far. The entity’s Sales Representative Jenelle Thomas handed over a cheque to MSC PRO Sherlon Rodrigues recently. Thomas said such a tournament can only help to enhance the skill level of the players and as such they are happy to be a part of it. Rodrigues expressed gratitude for the support.
Rodrigues also informed that fans can purchase any amount of bar-be- que on game nights and stand a chance to be among three winners for an airplane ticket along with 30 lbs free weight, while one player from the tournament will also receive a ticket compliment of Reliance Flight Service family, Greg Trucking Service, Mr. Clarence Hinds and Gailann Kellman.
