Four civil works contracts for the Indian Arrival Monument Project, at Palmyra Village, East Bank Berbice, are ongoing. Three are expecting practical completion during this week.
The project is approximately 92% complete with external finishes still remaining for the completion of the visitor’s gallery.
The first lot, the monument, was all but complete last week. There are to be external finishes to the front wall by Wednesday.
Lot 2, includes the roadway, drains and external walkway. The contractor has completed rigid pavement access road, finishes to the fountain, installation walkway poles and lights. This phase is slated to be completed this week, according to the Ministry of Public Infrastructure.
Lot 3 includes the fence and internal walkway. The contractor has begun installing the solar lanterns and has completed the base for the play park items.
With respect to Lot 4- the visitor’s gallery–, the structural works are completed. External finishes are in progress and within in the new week, ceiling finishes and electrical installation will commence.
The supply and installation of concrete pavers are awaiting suitable weather and completion of works before applying sealant to finish surface of pavers.
The project had run into trouble after the monument base collapsed last year.
