A family of the Upper Corentyne area is presently mourning the devastating loss of their five-month-old child after he was reportedly electrocuted on Tuesday at their home.

According to reports. around 11:00hrs on the day in question, the baby was at home with his mother Onessa Jackson in their one-flat concrete home.
The child, who lived with his mother, father and a three-year-old sibling, was reportedly lying on a bed. The woman decided to make up the bed and placed the child to lie on the floor. The child got hold of a drop cord, which was nearby. The cord had an exposed section that had tape wrapped around it. The child reportedly placed the cord into his mouth unknown to the mother. It was when she was finished what she was doing and trying to pick up the child that she realized what had happened.
The woman tried to revive the child but was unsuccessful. The baby was rushed to the Skeldon Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The woman who began to slip into spells of unconsciousness was taken into custody where she was questioned and subsequently released.
The police are asking residents to be extremely careful with electrical connections in their homes, especially with small children around. They are asking citizens to discard damaged electrical appliances and wires.
