The son of former world champion Julian Jackson is scheduled to arrive in Guyana tonight as part of US Virgin Islands team to the Caribbean Boxing Championship. Coach Julian Jackson Jr will accompany boxer Deion Pruitt to participate in the region’s premier tournament which starts on Thursday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The two are expected to arrive at 9:10 pm tonight at the Eugene Correia International Airport. Pruitt will compete in the elite light heavyweight division. The two Islanders would be the first set of competitors to arrive here for the four day tournament which has attracted participation from 12 countries.
As a professional boxer Julian Jackson competed from 1981 to 1998. He is a three-time world champion in two weight classes, having held the WBA super welterweight title from 1987 to 1990, and the WBC middleweight title twice between 1990 and 1995.
Known for his devastating power, Jackson was 29-0 with 27 knockouts when he faced Jamaican Mike McCallum on August 23, 1986 in Miami. McCallum won by second round TKO.
